Harriman served as the design architect, site programmer and site designer for the Oak Bluffs Ferry Terminal. The resulting design solved many pragmatic circulation issues associated with the large number of passengers, cargo semitrailer handling, pick-up and drop-off, and luggage handling. Harriman prepared evaluations of passenger and vehicle flows to determine the most cost effective approach to reconstruction. The firm was also responsible for the design of the ferry terminal building and related ticket window functions. Harriman worked closely with constituent groups to ensure that all new enhancements reflected the historic character of the town and enhanced the travel experience of the terminal’s customers.
This project was awarded a 2011 American Council of Engineering Companies/Massachusetts Excellence in Engineering Silver Award.
