A phased renovation to CMCC’s Jalbert Hall included the Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) and involved the creation of several technology-focused program spaces, including the College’s Rapid Prototyping Center, computer repair and training facilities, and computer and CADD classrooms.
An important consideration in the design of the CAT was an emphasis on generating collaborative learning and working environments.
Technology-infused lounges and informal study areas are placed to encourage faculty and student interaction. Rooms are arranged around common areas with a high degree of transparency into and through spaces.
The 40,000-sq.-ft. renovation also included upgrades to information technology, electrical, HVAC and plumbing infrastructures.
Because of separate funding sources and full-year academic scheduling, the project was completed in several phases over the course of 12 months.
