Many of Harriman’s urban design and planning projects focus on the importance of walkable and bikeable cities as a way to reduce congestion, reduce negative environmental impacts, and improve people’s health. As part of Harriman’s commitment to walkable and bikeable cities, Harriman offers its Boston based employees a free membership to Hubway, Boston’s bike sharing system. Walking and using Hubway in place of driving relieves traffic congestion, reduces local air pollution, improves traffic safety, and increases physical activity. For Harriman, Hubway helps the company practice sustainability while relieving stress and encouraging good health. With more than 1,600 bikes at 160 stations spread throughout the Boston area it’s easy for Harriman’s Boston based staff to grab and bike and head to a meeting or run errands during lunch or after work.
