The Great Falls Transportation Center is a centrally located 1,440 square foot bus station in Auburn, Maine. The bus station serves as a local transportation hub for the Cities of Auburn and Lewiston. The building, located in the downtown district of Auburn, is able to serve passengers who arrive on foot or by bike or car.
The design of the building incorporates a south facing waiting area with incredible natural light and views to buses arriving and departing. Design features include a waiting area for passengers with various types of seating, each with outlets for conveniently charging personal electronic devices. Public bathrooms and vending machines add further convenience for waiting passengers. In addition to the building’s public areas, a driver break room and bathroom were designed to provide a private place for drivers throughout the day. The materials used in the building are all made in the United States and were selected for their durability and longevity.
The project was funded in part by the City of Auburn and the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT). The building meets MDOT standards and all materials meet the Buy America requirements.
