Tonawanda, New York
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, Harriman acted as master planners for an area of Tonawanda, New York that is home to heavy manufacturing, office, flex space, and the beginnings of an energy-based industrial park. These all exist within an area of three active, closed and closing landfills, and nearby to established residential neighborhoods. To protect investment of about $1.5 billion in industrial projects, the town asked Harriman to help master plan a sustainable development concept that preserves unique water resources, gains access to new industrial land for expansion, redevelops out-dated uses, and utilizes the landfills to their greatest advantage, including options for solar collection. The master plan team prepares market-based and engineered solutions that legitimize public investment in the infrastructure to support new development and redevelopment.
