Harriman Designs Conceptual Plans for Southern Maine Center for the Visual

AUBURN – Harriman Architects and Engineers of Auburn and Portland created the conceptual plans for a performance, art exhibition, and arts education facility. The project is being developed in collaboration with the Southern Maine Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, Inc. (SMCVPA), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Maine corporation.

The SMCVPA Center will be approximately 85,000 square feet on three levels and will include:

• A 900-seat theater
• Excellent acoustics and professional theatrical systems
• A black box theater seating 135
• Band/orchestra room
• Chorus room
• Dance studio
• Radio/TV studios
• Visual arts rooms
• Visual/performing arts studios
• Private lesson rooms
• Gallery
• Café

The SMCVPA Center will be dedicated to the whole community. Its purpose is to provide a facility for excellence in arts education and performance in southern Maine for people of all ages. It will be a community arts center offering professional performances and programs for the community and the region at large. It will offer high-quality, functional facilities available to local and regional organizations for meeting and events.
