The Town of Stratford enjoys a convenient location along the major commuter rail network serving southwestern Connecticut and the metropolitan New York region. As a residential, family-oriented community, the town already benefits from a rail station located within a traditional town center. Harriman has been finding ways that Stratford could further benefit from high quality new investments in housing and businesses that could take advantage of links, including pedestrian and bicycle, to the rail station and services and businesses in the town center. A village-scale density can be imagined, like many other “commuter suburbs” and towns throughout New England, the northeast and abroad. The planning process is allowing the citizens to make pro-active decisions to invite and support transit oriented development from a village-scale to greater density.
