North Adams, Massachusetts
For the City of North Adams, Harriman prepared a conceptual streetscape design for the Ashland Street corridor. Using Complete Streets principles, this project was designed to transform a neglected street corridor into an attractive, landscaped link. The plan provides new sidewalks and bicycle lanes, and forges new paths to community destinations. The concept design included imaginative signage and public art along the route, linking the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts with the downtown. The plan takes advantage of municipal ownership of several park parcels and public facilities to create places of interest along the route. The design effort was funded by the Massachusetts Downtown Initiative program through a grant from the Department of Housing and Community Development.
