Enfield Zoning for Transit Oriented Development

Located on the Connecticut River, the historic village center of Thompsonville is easily accessible from I-91 in Enfield. Helping to shape Enfield’s future is a proposed New Haven-Hartford- Springfield high speed rail corridor with a proposed transit center on the riverfront. Harriman determined the zoning appropriate for maintaining the historic character of the village while improving the potential for property reinvestment, and created an implementing strategy. The recommended zoning includes a new, mixed-use village zoning district, a significant upgrading of the residential districts to encourage improvements to the properties and homeowner occupancy, and a negotiated redevelopment process for the riverfront as a transit-oriented development in support of the proposed regional transit center. In addition, Harriman outlined a branding and outreach program for improving interest in the village and the potential for revitalization.
