Bolduc Avenue Health Center
Fort Kent, Maine
Harriman designed a 10,000-square-foot health services expansion for Fish River Rural Health’s Bolduc Avenue Health Center. The expansion includes a two-story medical services facility equipped with upper and lower entrances, as well as an elevator, and has parking available on both levels for patients, staff and visitors.
The building’s upper level is based on the patient-centered medical home model with separate private waiting spaces for medical patients and counseling areas alike. The space incorporates six exam rooms, one procedure room, three counseling rooms, four physician offices, a laboratory, and nursing and administrative areas.
Downstairs, a patient education center includes meeting space for 60 with an adjacent catering kitchen, and restrooms. The center can be secured from the rest of the facility for after-hours use by community and area organizations.
The interior design centers on a palette of earth tones, developed with the staff’s valuable input. Durable, yet natural appearing materials, such as wood-look luxury vinyl planks, enhance the “sense of place.”
The expansion provides greater access to patient services including screening, group support sessions, and health insurance marketplace outreach and enrollment. The addition of sidewalks and exterior lights increase the site’s safety and accessibility. Connecting the new construction to the existing facility is a 400-square-foot vestibule at the street level entrance that serves the medical practice and the existing dental clinic.
