Raymond A. Geiger Elementary School
New 624 Student School
Lewiston, Maine
The new school was designed to serve students from Pre-K through grade 6 and features an interior design theme based on the Dr. Seuss book Oh, the Places You’ll Go. Each grade consists of a cluster of classrooms to encourage team teaching. Small group or team rooms are provided for each grade to allow for flexibility, as well as needed break-out space. Rooms for special services are integrated within the classroom wings to support the school’s inclusionary model. Also included are a full-size gymnasium, cafeteria, stage, art and music rooms, administration offices, computer lab and library.
The furniture for the new school was based on the following criteria:
- Durability of finishes
- Coordination with schools interior design aesthetic
- Suitability to the scale of the students
- Teaching style
- Maintenance protocol and capabilities
