As TD Banknorth has grown, the continual need for office space has resulted in three separate expansions in the historic Bates Mill buildings in Lewiston from 2000 through 2006. Renovations on four floors have enhanced high, open spaces and traditional materials with a palette of warm, compatible finishes.
Today’s technology needs create a striking contrast when interfaced with the 160 year-old wood columns and brick walls of yesterday’s industry. Exposed mechanical, electrical and data systems are sensitively planned and finished to accentuate an open and airy environment.
Open office areas and cafeterias have been designed to take advantage of natural light which is complemented with indirect lighting. A large file storage area occupies much of the first floor, strategically laid out amid narrowly-spaced columns and brick walls.
