With a rapidly expanding population, Westbrook Middle School quickly outgrew its walls within six years of the original opening in 2010. The original design was done in a manner to allow for expansion to the third floor of six classrooms. Six additional classrooms were also added to the end of the building to give a total of twelve new additional classrooms.
The existing geothermal heating and cooling system was expanded to the twelve classrooms. Like the original classrooms, the new classrooms utilized radiant slabs, daylight harvesting and vertical displacement diffusers.
The expansion is precisely done so that it is almost impossible to know it was ever an addition.
